AWE has given an additional boost to a struggling scout group which is trying to raise funds for urgent repairs to its buildings.
Mike Loxley is the group treasurer for Pamber Heath Scout Group, in Silchester, Hampshire, and also works at AWE.
He said: “We have been raising funds for the last 15 months and have now finally reached our target to allow us to complete the work. We are very grateful to AWE’s Community Committee for all its support.”
More than 100 children will benefit from the improved facilities, including cubs, beavers, scouts, rainbows, and brownies.
Michele Maidment, secretary of AWE’s Community Committee, said: “We’re pleased to be able to give this help to the scout group, and support its continuing fundraising efforts.
“As a company, AWE is committed to helping both local and national charities with help through practical help or donations.”
Fundraising is an ongoing challenge for all charities, and the club covers most of its routine costs through membership subscriptions and events throughout the year.
Additional improvements that can now be carried out include safety and security upgrades to the scout den, in Pelican Road, which will include a designated parking area, and secure fence to separate the car park and the road from the grassed area the children use for their outside activities.
