A generous donation from AWE staff, has been given to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to support the thousands of volunteer crew members who risk their lives to save others in trouble at sea.
AWE’s Community Committee presented the cheque for £5,763.80 which was raised by members of staff during the last 12 months, after the RNLI was chosen as a charity of the year.
Michele Maidment, secretary of AWE’s Community Committee, said: “Staff excelled themselves this year, raising money through the annual fun run, raffles, cake sales and book sales.
“We’re delighted to present this amount to the RNLI, and help them in the vital work they do.”
Last year alone RNLI lifeboats were launched more than 8,900 times rescuing over 7,900 people, and last summer more than 17,600 people were aided by RNLI lifeguards.
Rhys Parker, RNLI’s Corporate Partnership Manger, said: “As a charity, we have to raise over 98% of funding each year from donations and rely on the support of people like the employees of AWE who have so generously raised money for us. “Their fundraising efforts will help our volunteer crews and lifeguards to continue to save lives at sea and we are very grateful for their support.”
AWE has also recently raised £399.88 during the charity’s annual fundraising day (January 27) and the amount was donated to the RNLI Mortimer and District Branch.
