AWE presents cheque to BIBS

AWE has recently supported a local hospital ward which cares for premature and special care babies, through a boost of £1,000.

The presentation, made by AWE’s Community Committee, was given to the charity Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS), which raises funds for the Buscot neonatal ward at the Royal Berks Hospital, in Reading.

Money raised by the charity has helped to pay for a microwave, a redecorated breast feeding room, and contribute toward incubators and other specialist equipment.

Michele Maidment, secretary of the AWE Community Committee, said: “We are really pleased to be able to support this worthwhile cause, and we want to thank the ward for inviting us in to see the work first hand.”

Philip Bastian, one of the volunteers for the charity, said: “All the money donated to BIBS goes directly towards purchasing equipment and supporting the parents and families of babies on Buscot ward.

“We are very grateful to AWE for the support and this donation will be put to very good use!”

Notes to Editors

1.     AWE plays a crucial role in national defence by providing and maintaining warheads for Trident, the UK's nuclear deterrent

2.     AWE is contracted to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through a Government-owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) arrangement. Whilst our sites and facilities remain in government ownership, their management, day to day operations, and the maintenance of the nuclear stockpile is contracted to a private company AWE Management Limited (AWE ML). AWE ML is a consortium comprising three equal partners: Serco Group plc, the Lockheed Martin Corporation and Jacobs Engineering Group.
