AWE is a winner at Business Continuity Institute global awards

AWE's business resilience team is celebrating after winning the ‘team of the year’ title at the Business Continuity Institute Global awards.

Earlier this month, the celebrations at the BCI Gifted Grades and Global Awards 2012 paid tribute to some of the finest talent in the industry.

Forming part of the BCM World Conference Gala Dinner, some 350 guests from across the global business continuity community gathered together to celebrate and applaud the outstanding achievements of business continuity professionals working worldwide. The awards were presented by Steve Mellish FBCI and Iain Taylor (Hon) FBCI.

The team was praised for implementing a cross-organizational resilience programme that includes threat planning; horizon scanning; as well as an incident response. Coming from different areas of the business, our team was recognised as true thought leaders by their peers within their sector.

Lesley Grimes, AWE’s Business Resilience Manager, said: “It’s a huge achievement as we were competing against major global companies, and this is great recognition for AWE and all the team’s efforts over the last few years.”

Steve Fussey, AWE’s Director Site, said: “This is a tremendous achievement and proof of the real progress we have made in business resilience. Ensuring we are able to respond to any situation with tried and proven processes is an essential part of supporting the AWE mission, and this award is testimony to the real progress we have made.”

Notes to Editors

1.     AWE plays a crucial role in national defence by providing and maintaining warheads for Trident, the UK's nuclear deterrent.

2.     AWE is contracted to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through a Government-owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) arrangement. Whilst our sites and facilities remain in government ownership, their management, day to day operations, and the maintenance of the nuclear stockpile is contracted to a private company AWE Management Limited (AWE ML). AWE ML is a consortium comprising three equal partners: Serco Group plc, the Lockheed Martin Corporation and Jacobs Engineering Group.
