Individuals living at SeeAbility’s Fir Tree Lodge, Tadley, have been given a huge surprise from AWE firefighter Nicola Dalton, after the charity was nominated to receive a donation from the company.
Nicola has volunteered for almost two years at Fir Tree Lodge. It was Nicola’s mother, Ann-Marie Dalton (an external member of AWE’s Community Committee) who nominated the charity for an award. Together they presented the cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the company to Karen Hebdon, SeeAbility’s Registered Manager.
Nicola plays a vital role volunteering at Fir Tree Lodge, supporting all the individuals with sailing in the spring and summer. She also supports a young resident once a week to go out for the evening, widening his friendship circle and providing a link to the local community. She said: “I am so glad to know that this donation will make a difference and I look forward to hearing how residents decide to use it.”
SeeAbility’s Fir Tree Lodge was opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester the charity’s Patron in 2007. The home provides specialist services for up to six people living with sight loss and complex disabilities.
Karen Hebdon said: “We are delighted to have been selected by AWE’s Community Committee for this wonderful donation and very grateful to Nicola for nominating Fir Tree Lodge. The hours that she spends with the people we support enriches their lives immeasurably. Volunteers bring a new dimension and sense of inclusion and we value them greatly. AWE shows us continued generosity and kindness and we thank everyone concerned.”
Michele Maidment, secretary of AWE’s Community Committee said: “We were delighted to be able to help SeeAbility in this way, and we are thoroughly impressed with the dedication and commitment that Nicola gives to the charity so regularly. This shows that the donation of someone’s time and practical help means just as much to a charity as does the donation of much needed funds.”
