St Joseph’s wins Primary Science Challenge

Following the end of West Berkshire’s Primary Science Challenge, it’s been announced that the winning school is St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Newbury.

AWE supported the West Berkshire primary schools through sponsoring the Primary School Science Challenge, by sending teams of scientists who wowed them with fun experiments involving marshmallows, lava lamps, volcanoes and more to inspire and motivate them and get them excited about the world of science.

The events were organised by the Education Business Partnership West Berkshire (EBPWB).

Jasmine Coote, from EBPWB, said: “AWE has been a great supporter of our local schools. It has been good to see the impact of scientists going into schools and motivating young people about the world of science.

“This is the first year we have run the Primary Science Challenge and it has been brilliant to see how hard the students have worked. We would like to say a big well done to St Joseph’s, who were thrilled to win first place and the trophy. It is clear from this event that having people from business involved makes a real difference.”

The students were judged recently by AWE scientists on their ideas, effort and presentation skills.
