Graduate scientists from AWE have made a big bang at Reading University.
The team of four, captivated and inspired hundreds of school children at Chemistry at Work event – held on Tuesday December, 17, 2013 at Reading University.
The event was designed to encourage 13-14-years-olds to pursue chemistry as a career path.
The team of Phil Powner, Rachel Strickland, Daniel Lewis and William Brown used chemistry experiments to inspire the younger generation to pursue science at university and beyond.
Physicist Phil Powner said: "I think we have shocked a few pupils today in a good way. There are a lot of great minds put off science by the reputation of people who do it. It's not seen as popular, but today the pupils got to see how much fun can be had with chemistry and that there is an opportunity to have a fulfilling career with it too."
Rachel, an AWE Material Scientist said she really enjoyed presenting to the children.
She said: "It was great to see their faces when we did the experiments – they all seemed really captivated. Hopefully some of them will now consider studying chemistry at university."
