A £200 donation from AWE supported a tree planting initiative by the Baughurst Scouting & Guiding Associations.
The tree planting ceremony, which took place recently at the Baughurst Scout and Guide Den, was attended by all ages from the youngest beavers and rainbows to the older scouts and guides.
An inspection of the trees earlier in the year resulted in three trees being identified as rotten, and subsequently felled. As part of the rent agreement with the Heath End Village Hall, the Scout and Guide Group were responsible for replacing the trees.
Michele Maidment, Secretary of AWE’s Community Committee said: “At AWE we recognise our responsibility to preserve, protect and improve the environment for present and future generations.”
She added: “AWE is committed to supporting local charities and community groups and the Community Committee was pleased to be able to help with a donation of £200.”
Cub Scout Leader and AWE manager Mary Robinson thanked the Committee for the donation and said: “Scouts and Guides help children and young adults reach their full potential through the development of skills including teamwork, communication and leadership - values which are embraced by AWE.”
Jenny Foan, an external member of the AWE community Committee was invited by the group to assist with the planting of the new trees. The ceremony took place on Remembrance Sunday.
Jenny, who has a long standing relationship with the guiding association with over 50 years of volunteering, said: “I was delighted to represent the Community Committee and the good work they do. I have been a member since it began in 1997. It was lovely to be involved in the tree planting and to meet the scouts.”
