AWE staff help homeless Charities

Staff at AWE have been busy collecting hundreds of clothes items for two local charities this Christmas.

The donations were given to Winchester charity Trinity, which provides practical and emotional support to around 800 people each year who are experiencing the effects of homelessness or vulnerability and The Camrose Centre, a drop-in service dedicated to supporting and assisting the homeless, vulnerably housed and socially isolated in our community in Basingstoke.

This is the second year that AWE has organised a collection for the homeless.

AWE staff member Liz Frost who has co-ordinated the donations, said: “AWE staff have donated hundreds of Items including, jumpers, trousers, coats, hats, blankets and toiletries such as toothpaste and  toothbrushes, which can be a vital lifeline for people who are homeless, vulnerable and in need. More than ever, Christmas is a time we should be supporting and helping others.  It’s fantastic, we’ve had so much support from staff. AWE is committed to supporting local and national charities with donations, sponsorship and practical help.”

Trinity’s spokesperson, Lucy Tennant said “We are so grateful to the staff of AWE for collecting vital donations which will be distributed to our clients, being able to provide quality toiletries and clothing allows our clients a bit of luxury in otherwise chaotic lives. Thanks especially to Liz for organising the collections – Christmas can be especially lonely for some service users, and it is great to be able to give gifts to every person.”

Trinity charity helps people who are vulnerable to the effects of homelessness, addiction, physical and mental ill health, poverty, social isolation and domestic abuse; they offer solutions, hope, choice and control.

The Camrose Centre is a drop-in service dedicated to supporting and assisting the homeless, vulnerably housed and socially isolated in our community. The centre is open between 10am-2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Camrose team offer our clients breakfast and hot lunch in a safe welcoming environment, with basic washing facilities and essential items such as toiletries, towels, clothes and shoes, and rucksacks, tents and sleeping bags for our rough sleeping community.
