AWE makes donation to school

Fundraisers from AWE have donated over £17,000 to three charities following a year of events to raise money.

Since January 2015, members of the AWE Team Challenge, a corporate event designed to strengthen team building and members of the AWE UK Challenge team, have baked cakes, washed cars, run miles and held quizzes to raise

The donation from AWE has helped the school purchase a portable fume cupboard, enabling them to undertake science experiments in safety.

Michele Maidment from AWE’s Community Committee said: “Hopefully this money will help the children become more enthusiastic about science. AWE works actively with local schools to foster and inspire an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects. One of the ways we support local schools is by offering teaching material, like factsheets on the AWE Awesome Education Zone which can be found at www.awe.co.uk

Dave Davies, Head of Science faculty at Mary Hare School said: “We are delighted with the installation of a new fume cupboard in one of our downstairs laboratories and are exceedingly grateful to the AWE for their generous support in funding the project. The fume cupboard is in a wheelchair accessible laboratory, allowing our wheelchair bound students to observe and perform practical work which was previously impossible. It also provides all students with additional opportunities to carry out reactions involving toxic gases safely. This is a resource that will benefit present and future students for many years to come.”
