AWE’s heart-warming donation

AWE has donated £1000 to local charity Heart Start.

Heart Start UK is an initiative, coordinated by the British Heart Foundation, (BHF) to teach members of the public what to do during a life-threatening emergency; simple skills that save lives.

The scheme aims to educate local residents, groups and schools emergency life-saving skills. Recently, year 5/6 pupils of Burnham Copse Primary school, Tadley, undertook the first aid training as part of their PHSE education, participating in three one hour sessions.

Bryan Vowel, Heart Start Tadley Triangle Co-coordinator said: “The recent donation of £1000 by the Community Committee at AWE was a total surprise and the money will be used to buy a special manikin that portrays graphically the benefit of performing CPR. AWE has been a valued supporter of our scheme over the years and their continuing assistance is received with most grateful thanks. This donation also guarantees the continuation of our work for some years to come.”

Although Heart Start is supported by BHF, not all equipment is supplied and schemes are required to fund the ongoing cost of additional equipment, consumables and expenses from public donations

Tara Bourne, AWE employee who nominated the charity to receive a donation from the AWE Community Committee said: “AWE is committed to being a good neighbour and working with its local communities. Having taken a Heart Start first aid course a few years ago it gave me the essential training to have the ability to administer first aid if necessary. As a new mum it gave me much more confidence in being able to deal with an emergency situation should one arise.”
