Charity cake bake at AWE boosts Macmillan funds by £6,400

Cake fans were in for a treat at AWE’s baketastic fundraising event in support of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. Staff chomped through a serious amount of cakes, biscuits and savoury treats, raising £6,400 in the process, smashing last year’s total of £2,000.

Every department was involved and many of the items on offer rivalled anything from the Bake-Off tent - some of the Skills Academy apprentices clearly have a future as star bakers as well as engineers and technologists! Teams from both Aldermaston and Burghfield sites took part and those unable to bake were willing cake consumers.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. People all over the UK host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone the charity raised £25 million and this year is aiming to raise even more.
