AWE’s Charity Fund has made a £1,000 donation to Basingstoke Foodbank to support the local community. Basingstoke Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
The donation will go towards Basingstoke Foodbank providing local emergency food and support to those in need. The charity and its volunteers distribute food parcels containing nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food for individuals and families. AWE’s donation comes at a time when there are greater demands on foodbanks due to COVID-19 and the ensuing economic hardship faced by an increasing number of people.
AWE and its staff have supported foodbanks in Hampshire and Berkshire for some years through financial donations and contributions to food collection. Since 2015 AWE has supported the Trussell Trust’s Christmas Food Collection and donated on average 1.5 tonnes of food each year.
AWE’s Charity Fund is set up to support staff in their charitable fund raising and promote good causes in the local community. Many of our staff also give their own time to support their chosen charities. AWE’s Charity Fund Secretary, Michele Maidment, said: “We know that the current situation has impacted on families and individuals locally, so are pleased to support the great work of local foodbanks in helping overcome food poverty.”
Phil Thomas, Basingstoke Foodbank’s Chair of Trustees, commented: “This amazingly generous donation to the foodbanks in Basingstoke and Tadley from everyone at AWE is a fantastic demonstration of community spirit, and will help us at the foodbank to continue to supply crisis food to those most in need in Basingstoke and surrounding areas. Well done!”
