At AWE we believe in being a good neighbour. It’s important that the people living near our sites have trust in us, and confidence in our safety.
We are proud of the strong relationship we have formed with the community. AWE contributes more than £300 million each year to the local economy, and we take our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) – being accountable for the company’s social, economic and environmental impacts – very seriously.
AWE’s highest priorities are the safety and security of our people and sites, together with protecting the environment we all share. Many of our staff and contractors, some 6,000 people in total, live in the local area.
We keep in touch with our neighbours in a variety of ways. Our community newsletter, Connect, goes to over 20,000 local homes. Formal links with the community are maintained through our Local Liason Committee which meets quarterly, and we have an award-winning Schools Liason Scheme serving over 90 local schools. AWE is also a major supporter of local and national charities and much of this work is coordinated by our Community Committee.
