Schools Liaison Scheme

You are here : About Awe >> Corporate Sustainability
AWE operates an award-winning Schools Liaison Scheme, an initiative which aims to promote science and engineering in local schools, and enhance community relations.
Over 90 schools are involved in the scheme, representing a cross section of primary, secondary and sixth-form schools and colleges throughout the catchment area triangle surrounding Newbury, Reading and Basingstoke.
Our enthusiastic Schools Liaison representatives are drawn from AWE staff, mostly with existing links to local schools - such as governors, PTA members, or simply parents of pupils. All staff involved in the scheme have been cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau to enable them to work with children under the age of 16.
An integral part of the scheme is our ‘AWEsome Science’ campaign, which encourages young people to develop a passion for science.
What can we offer?
We offer a wide range of services to schools on the Scheme; such as loaning out an extensive collection of educational equipment, providing a grant towards the provision of science text books, and organising fun and stimulating science & engineering ‘challenges’ for schools to compete in.
We can provide talks in schools on subjects as diverse as astronomy, magnets, and the extinction of dinosaurs to help bring the National Curriculum to life. Our wide range of educational aids and experiments give pupils valuable hands-on experience - just some of the items available for schools to borrow include a microscope, models of the human ear, eye and jaw, a telescope, and a full-size skeleton. A full inventory of the educational equipment available on loan is listed below.
