It is our aim that AWE be recognised as a world-class centre of scientific and technological excellence. This is closely tied in to our Customer’s expectation – which was set out in the 1998 Strategic Defence Review – to “develop the techniques and technologies needed to underpin any future arms limitations”. Our motivation is even wider than that, however. We want to continue to use the experience we gain at the leading edge of defence technology for the benefit of medicine and industry. Our links with universities have an important part to play in maintaining our leading status across a whole range of scientific and technological fields.
