Diversity & equal opportunities

AWE is an equal opportunities employer. We promote equality and fairness in all our people management, development and recruitment activities.
AWE welcomes applications from women and men, regardless of disability, sexuality, racial or ethnic origin, age or responsibility for dependants. We promote diversity in employment and welcome applications from all sections of the community. Applications from women and ethnic minorities are particularly welcome. The normal contractual retirement age at AWE is 65. Successful candidates will be selected solely on their ability to carry out the duties of the post.
Because of the nature of the work associated with these posts, they are subject to special nationality rules and are open only to British citizens. All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance.
Security Clearance for the majority of posts at AWE is ‘Developed Vetting’, which requires residence on UK soil for the 10 years immediately prior to employment. All offers of employment will be conditional on the candidate achieving the necessary level of security clearance for their role at AWE.
We make sure all employees have access to the full range of training and development opportunities that are relevant to their roles and will help them fulfil their career ambitions. These are chosen in partnership with line managers and/or mentors.
We are also committed to promoting science and technology careers to an ever-wider audience. As well as using traditional means such as advertising and university fairs, we visit a network of more than 90 local infant, junior, primary, secondary schools and colleges through our Schools Liaison Scheme.
