Engineering AWE

Our Engineering division is made up of several specialist teams focusing on everything from developing and building weapons technology through to environmental testing and decommissioning.

There are five main teams within Engineering.

Assembly
This division develops the tools, components and processes we use throughout AWE. We have roles for Control & Instrumentation Engineers, Systems Engineers and Maintenance Engineers.

Decommissioning
The Decommissioning team is responsible for the process of taking a facility out of service safely and without risk of contamination. Due to the breadth of the work we do here, there is a wide range of jobs available within Decommissioning, from Engineers to Risk Managers.

Environmental Testing
This area focuses on providing test facilities for explosive, toxic and radioactive materials and on creating environments that can’t be tested as prototypes. We most commonly have openings here for Environmental, Electronic and Systems Engineers.

Systems Engineering
This team is responsible for designing and integrating systems and subsystems for nuclear warheads. It is largely made up of Systems Engineers and Mechanical Engineers.

Sites Utilities
Our Site Utilities team deals with configuring engineering information relating to all of AWE’s facilities and utilities on-site. That means providing support to projects, site planning and development, explosives safety guarding, RF safety, data analysis and visualisation. In this area we tend to look for engineers experienced in utilities, facilities, mechanical, electrical and GIS.
