Orientation & settling in AWE

When you join AWE we are keen to ensure that you have the information, contacts and support to settle in as quickly as possible.

This will have started during the recruitment process where you will have been provided with a copy of your job description and will have had a number of conversations with your line manager and/or a nominated buddy to prepare you for your first few days.

When you join AWE, the first 3 days will be spent on the AWE Company Orientation programme. The first day provides you with an introduction to AWE. The second day will cover the essential elements of Security and Safety so that you are prepared for working at AWE sites. On day three, you’ll be given your personal AWE badges and taken on a tour of both the Aldermaston and Burghfield sites. This will include the chance to view our Historical Collection and see inside one or two of our facilities.

When you join your local team on day four, the Local Induction will start. The central Employee Development team have developed on-line support for this process on the AWE intranet. This will enable you and your line manager/buddy to work through the local induction in a logical manner. Many areas have a well-defined local induction to complement this corporate approach and through a range of formal and informal means, we hope that your initial few months will be informative to enable you to settle in as effectively as possible.
