Often described as ‘communities’, the two major AWE sites at Aldermaston and Burghfield are self-sufficient, with their own dedicated buildings, staff restaurants and car parks.
Both of our sites are spread across quite wide areas, but getting around is easy thanks to our network of roads, cycle-paths and pedestrian pathways. We also promote car sharing, and our park & ride scheme is widely used by staff and visitors alike. Many of our buildings feature shower facilities and bike stores so employees can cycle to work.
We also take occupational health very seriously, screening all candidates as part of the recruitment process to make sure they are suited to the role they are taking on. Our Occupational Health team is ready to respond to all kinds of incidents and is supported by AWE’s own Fire Service and Paramedics.
The way we communicate with each other is also an important part of building a sense of community. This is particularly true when you have as many different audiences as we do at AWE. To reach them all, we use our intranet, company newspaper and regular bulletins.
