Our undergraduate sponsorship programme is an excellent way to lay the foundations for a long-term career at AWE. If you are in the penultimate year of your university degree/PhD or college course (or the year before your sandwich year), and you have the right set of qualities, you can apply. We look for students who are studying a field of science or engineering that is relevant to our work here at AWE and who are keen to develop their skills.
The application process is the same as for a permanent job (although in this case CVs are accepted and should be forwarded to us at careers@awe.co.uk) and assessments are typically held by end of March each year. We offer a salary of £15,130 plus all the usual full-time benefits such as annual leave, pension scheme, which includes life assurance.
If you do well in your placement, you can return to your studies on Special Unpaid Leave. We’ll pay your tuition fees, help out with the cost of learning materials and might even pay some living expenses. You can also come back to AWE for paid vacation placements and will continue to enjoy certain employment benefits.
Of course the long-term aim is for you to join us after graduation, and we will expect you to commit to this from the start. The offer of a job will depend on your performance which will be discussed with your tutor during your final year and, if you maintain the appropriate standards, we’ll have a job waiting for you when you graduate.
