Process Operator apprenticeship

2 year Apprenticeship

A Process Operator apprentice at AWE will give you access to a diverse and unique manufacturing environment. Your role will be key to providing manufacturing support to the defence and security of the UK.

A Process Operator will deliver hands-on production and process operations within multiple environments including science, engineering and logistics. You will spend the first few weeks of your apprenticeship within the Skills Academy for induction; during this time, you will undertake and complete manufacturing based projetcs, which will enable you to start to develop skills and knowledge required to work successfully in the field of Manufacturing Operations at AWE.

During the 2 year apprenticeship journey, you will learn the following skills:

  • Understanding of the production function
  • Appreciation of workplace health & safety issues
  • Understanding of the importance of relevant safety, operating and company procedures
  • Understanding of risk assessments and the elements of other assessments that make up safe systems of work
  • Experience of using manufacturing, engineering or scientific equipment
  • Undertaking  a range of operator duties within a manufacturing plant, including assembly and disassembly of products, waste processing areas and material control
  • Experience working with personal protective equipment and respiratory protective equipment

In addition you will also be given the opportunity for personal development through activities such as team building challenges, organisational awareness presentations, health and safety workshops and charity projects.

During your apprenticeship, you will work towards nationally recognised qualifications.

Entry requirements

  • Good level of Maths and English
  • Must be age 18 or above as at 4th September 2017
