Blue Oak AWE

When Blue Oak (IBM RS/6000SP) was installed in 2002, it was one of the most powerful computers in the world.

Its 32 frames of nodes and four of communications equipment comprise 120 nodes devoted to computation, each with 16 processors. The overall peak computational power from 1920 processors is almost 3 Tflop/s.

Each node has 16 Gbytes of memory, with the exception of two nodes which are configured for more memory-intensive calculations and have 64 Gbytes of memory. The system has more than 100 Tbytes of global disk storage.

After four years of providing vital support to AWE, Blue Oak has been replaced by Redwood and is undergoing decommissioning.
