People AWE

Critical to the success of AWE’s manufacturing programmes is its high calibre people.

Production operations are undertaken by teams made up of dedicated frontline workers and skilled craft personnel. These production staff are supported by manufacturing engineers, assurance personnel and technical specialists who are collectively responsible for implementing process improvements and development of new processes and technologies. Facility management and maintenance teams ensure the continued availability and safe operation of the various facilities across the two sites.

A strong safety and quality culture is instilled within AWE’s production staff in order to ensure that all operations are undertaken with the highest regard for safety, component quality and regulatory requirements. All production personnel undergo robust training to ensure they are competent to undertake their activities and fully understand the hazards presented by the materials being processed.

A ‘right first time’ approach is actively encouraged across the manufacturing organisation and a strong culture of continuous improvement and team working is maintained in order to deliver AWE’s complex manufacturing programmes.

The use of ‘Partnership’ principles and Lean techniques are used to ensure personnel work together to achieve effective problem resolution. Collaboration between different groups from across the manufacturing organisation is effective, with ‘communities of practice’ formed on various manufacturing topics to share experiences, best practice and learning opportunities.
