We are offering a unique and exciting one-year placement as Manufacturing Engineer – a role where you will make a genuine contribution to keeping the UK safe and secure. If you have a background in manufacturing, mechanical, general or integrated engineering disciplines, we’d like to hear from you.

As an Undergraduate Safety and Reliability Engineer, you will make a genuine contribution to keeping the UK safe and secure. We look forward to hearing from anyone who has a background in mechanical, electrical and electronic, chemical, general or software engineering, or in physics or maths.

Materials and Analytical Science at AWE supports the life cycle of warhead components and technologies to ensure the reliability of the UK’s strategic deterrent and national security mission. Materials and Analytical Science is critical to understanding and predicting the behaviour of various types of materials under various conditions.

As part of the Modelling Team, you will get the opportunity to work in an exciting part of AWE and on projects which may include working on a range of models and codes, utilising several coding languages

Nuclear Threat Reduction (NTR) supports the Government on a variety of national security issues related to radiological and nuclear materials.  The work varies from fundamental and novel research to applied development of technology demonstrators. Application areas within NTR include detection of nuclear and radiological material, nuclear forensics, international treaty monitoring and verification.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer (Science), you will make a direct contribution to the successful operations in the Trials and Test Technology Centre, where we conduct trials across mechanical, explosive and extreme environments. We also maintain capabilities such as the Orion laser facility. You will also gain knowledge and experience of industry best practice within the Mechanical Design Engineering discipline.

As an Electronics Engineer (Science), you will make a direct contribution to the successful operations in the Trials and Test Technology Centre, where we conduct trials across mechanical, explosive and extreme environments. We also maintain capabilities such as the Orion laser facility. You will also gain knowledge and experience of industry best practice within the Electronics Engineer discipline.

You will gain knowledge and experience of industry best practice within the Project Management discipline. Exact taskings will depend on the projects available at the time. You can expect to be assigned independent projects, supporting the scoping, planning, and estimating of future activities, and the delivery of technical projects for the maintenance and upgrade of control systems, electrical systems and pulsed power systems. During this, you will be supported and mentored by experienced project personnel, well versed in AWE processes.
