AWE Apprentices Celebrate Success

Hard work and dedication paid off for 34 AWE apprentices, who have graduated from the award-winning AWE Skills Academy with flying colours.

Watched by proud family members, the apprentices took part in a graduation ceremony at Sandford Springs Golf Club. Congratulating the apprentices, Marcus Hutchings, who leads the academy, said: “A big thank you to you for supporting the apprentices on their three and a half year journey – particularly mums, dads and partners – your efforts have helped the success of those graduating today.

“Since our last graduation event in 2016, I’m proud to say that we have been named the South East region large employer of the year for apprenticeships and included in the Top 100 apprenticeship providers nationally.

“We have advanced our technology programme, including the issue of laptops to all first year apprentices.  This supports a more flexible and dynamic working environment which allows us to train our apprentices in a very different way, gaining full benefit from applications and digital media.”

Kathryn Marshall, Director of HR, said: “I am extremely proud of every single one of the 34 apprentices. Each of them embodies our values of pride, excellence, trust and innovation. They are the future of our organisation and of the UK’s defence. “This year, we are almost tripling the number of our apprenticeship places and introducing a range of new modules, including finance, supply chain management, laboratory technician and human resources, to our successful electrical, engineering and manufacturing programmes.”

The nationally-recognised apprenticeship programme forms part of Fusion, AWE’s early careers programme, encompassing apprentices and graduates as well as those undertaking a year in industry. Fusion is the key to AWE’s future, nurturing and developing the talent and leadership required to take the organisation through the 21st century.

Well done! After three and a half years of hard work, AWE Apprentices celebrate their achievements at their graduation ceremony.
