AWE accredited as Disability Confident Employer

“Our way of operating is fully inclusive, getting the best from every team and every individual.”

AWE is very proud to announce that today we have been accredited as a Disability Confident Employer by the Department of Work & Pensions.  It’s very timely as 3rd December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The accreditation is part of the Disability & Neurodiversity Working Group’s action plan.  Group Sponsor, Dave Chambers, has been involved with the group for a couple of years now, and submitted the application together with Lynne Baker, chair of the group.

Lynne says “AWE has a number of great initiatives in place already which we have confirmed in our submission.  It’s also made us think about what else needs to be done, and we’re working hard to make this a great inclusive workplace for everyone. There is more to come in 2020!”

Dave Chambers agrees: “The group has really come into its own over the last year and this is a great affirmation of the work they have been doing.”

The annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities was initiated by the United Nations in 1992. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The disability confident scheme recognises three different levels of commitment to disability action by companies across the UK. You can read more on the DWP web pages.
