Celebrating World Environment Day at AWE

AWE prides itself on its standards of environmental management and in conserving and enhancing the AWE estate.

This week, coinciding with World Environment Day, we are publishing our commitments to improving our wildlife habitats in a five-year Biodiversity Action Plan, the first to be published externally.

Biodiversity is a key theme of our wider Environmental Sustainability Plan and the new plan has been compiled by the site ecologist, in conjunction with the Head of Environment and the Sustainability Manager. It sets out our current programme and plans for the next five years.

The plan explains some of the improvements which will be brought about by following a sustainable approach to managing our site development programme. It also includes some fascinating case studies – did you know that we have Peregrine Falcons nesting at Aldermaston?

*The United Nations World Environment Day has been promoting awareness of the environment since 1947. The day is focused on encouraging the global population to do something to help protect the environment. This year the theme is biodiversity.
