AWE scientist recognised by Society for Radiological Protection

AWE is proud to announce that scientist John Bradshaw has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP). The SRP is the principal independent professional body for radiation protection in the UK and a learned focus for both understanding radiation hazards and solutions, and providing information to government, industry and the public on radiation protection.

John’s expertise sees him join the fewer than 75 people that have been made Honorary Fellows since the society’s founding in 1963. The SRP has over 2,000 members from many organisations and industries, and its important work requires close interaction with regulators, including the Health and Safety Executive and Office for Nuclear Regulation.

John joined AWE in 1995 and was appointed its first Head of Profession (Radiation Protection). Over time his extensive knowledge has provided radiological protection advice on site, particularly with regards to radiological new builds. John has been a key supporter of SRP for many years, speaking at their events and chairing several of their committees.

Pete Bryant, Immediate Past President of the SRP commented: “John is a well-known and liked member of the SRP, who has and continues to play an active role in supporting the Society and the wider profession. Having worked with John personally for a number of years, I fully support him receiving this recognition. Both personally and on behalf of the Society I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication.”

To inspire future generations John also supports AWE’s school outreach programme by discussing the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and encouraging local students to consider a career in STEM.
