AWE Nuclear Security Technologies seeks amazing young people for extraordinary career opportunities

AWE’s prestigious Early Careers programme is open for applications from today (16 September) for entry in 2025.

Around 10,000 applications are expected for the 534 hotly contested places which will be available; covering apprenticeships, 12-month year in industry placement and AWE’s Evolve graduate scheme. A separate application window for degree apprentice schemes opens in October.

AWE’s unique role and the opportunities it offers to work on world-leading science, engineering, technology and large-scale business projects, mean that there are a huge variety of careers on offer. Those lucky enough to gain a place on the Early Careers programme will be able to learn from industry and sector experts and contribute to the UK’s defence and national nuclear programmes.

Kerry Thompson, AWE’s Head of Early Careers, said: “We were delighted to welcome our 2024 intake of hugely talented young people from diverse backgrounds – our largest increase in fact, across the programme – and we’re now looking to next year’s programme. We invest heavily in our Early Careers programme, as we do in ongoing professional development throughout people’s careers at AWE.

“There are more options available to young people now and we are competing with industry and technology for those with valuable STEM and business skills. We’ve worked hard to attract, engage, cultivate, and empower the next wave of talent to contribute to the delivery of our mission and provide a robust pipeline of critical skills and ability, both now and in the future.”

AWE’s recruitment team has been busy visiting universities, schools and colleges, recruitment fairs and STEM events to raise awareness and spread the word. AWE will also be at the WISE (Women into Science and Engineering) conference in London on 16 October.
