AWE’s undergraduate wins Year in Industry Prize

Chloe, from the University of Brighton, who just completed her year-in-industry with AWE, has been awarded the prestigious Year in Industry Prize – sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers.

Chloe delivered a number of projects, which have resulted in the successful enrolment of a local dairy farm to support AWE’s regulatory and monitoring programme as part of its obligations to the Environment Agency.

AWE conducts comprehensive environmental monitoring to ensure the company is compliant with the standards of the Environment Agency. This monitoring includes the sampling and subsequent analysis of milk from dairy farms within the vicinity of AWE sites. Chloe was presented with her award by the Master of Armourers & Brasiers’ Company, Professor Emma Ream.

Professor Ream said: “I am delighted that the Armourers & Brasiers’ Company is recognising the importance of work-based training as that has long been part of our organisation’s mission over several centuries. From my own background in nursing and health sciences research I understand the importance of reliable data in ensuring safe research environments. I congratulate Chloe on her significant contribution to AWE’s regulatory programmes for the environment in its locality and wish her every success in her future career.”

Another notable success for Chloe was the work she did involving a review of regulatory soil and vegetation sampling. Chloe said: “Thank you to everyone who helped make my placement year as enjoyable as it was, I truly believe the people around me helped to make me achieve everything I have this year. I couldn’t recommend an AWE placement year enough and can’t wait to share my experience with my university.” Chloe’s supervisor Gemma said: “Chloe has performed well above expectations in her placement year with us and she thoroughly deserves this award to recognise all her hard work.”
