Malcolm Jones honoured by Swansea University with a Doctor of Science degree for lifetime contributions to science

Malcolm Jones has been honoured by Swansea University with a Doctor of Science degree for lifetime contributions to science at national and international levels. This prestigious honour recognises Malcolm as a leading physicist of our time following an exceptional career so far.

Malcolm joined AWE in 1967 focusing on explosive-to-electric energy transducers and their applications, and his work led him into the world of nuclear safety which is very much his legacy. He has been a previous winner of the AWE John Challens Medal and has also been awarded an MBE in recognition of his contributions to the UK’s defence industry.

Malcolm’s career has seen him working in Science, Assurance and in Engineering where he still works part time for AWE.

Andrew Randewich, Exec Director Science said, “This is a fantastic recognition of Malcolm’s significant contribution, and I was delighted to hear the news. Malcolm is an extremely worthy recipient of this honour, and his legacy is one that still reverberates internationally and nationally.”

Adding to the congratulations, Mandy Savage, Exec Director Engineering said, “This is brilliant news and is not only testament to Malcom’s achievements over the course of his incredible career but demonstrates the calibre of talent that we are able to grow at AWE with the unique nature of what we do.”
