Strengthening International Ties
International collaboration is vital in strengthening national defence and nuclear security and despite the high levels of security involved, collaboration amongst allies is strong.
At AWE, a dedicated team of experts, advisors and business managers govern regular exchanges with international partners to facilitate collaboration and cooperation, and support research and development in nuclear science and technology.
Under strict international regulations and protocols, our team collaborates with internal and external parties to enable scientists and engineers to expand their experience and develop their knowledge of areas of interest to AWE’s mission. It also enables them to benefit from the unique insights offered through international assignments in nuclear research and immersion in the culture and way of life of another country.
These international collaborations enable AWE engineers and scientists to access resources and expertise that can help accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and technological innovation for defence and national security.
The collaboration between British and French scientists and engineers is the cornerstone for delivering vital radiographic and hydrodynamics research facilities to support the defence interests of both countries. The agreement is committed to ensuring mutual benefit and value for the taxpayer in the UK and France.
The US and UK however have a long and rich history of nuclear cooperation, so it is not unusual to have AWE scientists and engineers based in the US to work together for shared values with US technical experts also often crossing the Atlantic to work in the UK.
The UK and US have many common interests in the fields of supercomputing, complex materials, environmental testing and hydrodynamics, to name but a few, and that enables collaboration in research, scientific experiments and engineering innovation to support the future of nuclear deterrence.
AWE remains committed to fostering collaboration with its international partners and creating unique and exciting learning opportunities in the nuclear field for assignees to grow and develop their skills, knowledge and expertise whilst making a difference to global security through shared missions in nuclear deterrence.
As the UK’s industry sector evolves, opportunities to work with AWE’s international collaborators will be critical in shaping a resilient, adaptive and agile nuclear community for years to come.
