Leading on all fronts: Andrew McNaughton appointed Vice President of Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

Andrew McNaughton, our Executive Director for Infrastructure Projects Delivery (IPD), has been elected as Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) for the upcoming session. His appointment was formally approved by the ICE Council on 28 April 2025 and he will begin his three-year term on 4 November 2025. After this, Andrew will be appointed President of the ICE for 2028 – 2029, becoming the 164th in its history.

This is a significant achievement that reflects Andrew’s long-standing commitment to the civil engineering profession. With over 40 years of experience in the infrastructure sector, both in the UK and internationally, Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge, energy and leadership to the role. His career has included executive and project leadership of some of the UK’s most iconic infrastructure projects, including High Speed One, the London 2012 Olympics and Heathrow Terminal 5.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and was previously named ICE’s Civil Engineering Manager of the year – recognition that speaks to his leadership, innovation and commitment to excellence across the sector.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have been appointed Vice President of the ICE. The timing couldn’t be better for AWE as investment in our infrastructure is vital to the future delivery of Astraea. It is imperative, therefore, that the supply chain knows we are open for business and we can attract the biggest and best to work on our infrastructure investment programme.”

Andrew McNaughton

Since joining AWE as a Non-Executive Director in 2021, Andrew has been on the Executive Committee for the last three years and is responsible for the delivery of the company’s infrastructure investment programme.

Congratulations Andrew on this well-deserved appointment.
