AWE Re‑accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)

We’re proud to share that AWE has been successfully re‑accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, marking over twenty years of partnership in supporting the growth and professionalism of our materials and chemical scientists.

In late November, we welcomed an RSC assessment panel including Dr David Barr CSci CChem FRSC (RSC Head of Governance), Dr Jonelle Harvey CChem MRSC (RSC Professional Standards Specialist), and Dr David Williamson CSci CChem MRSC (Independent Assessor, R&D team manager bp). Their visit included formal presentations and insightful discussions with our mentors and mentees, exploring how AWE continues to nurture professional development across the organisation.

Our speakers Dr Marina Dawes, CChem FRSC, Science Function Director, and Dr Duncan Broughton, CChem CSci FRSC, Head of Profession for Chemistry & Materials both shared updates on AWE’s scientific work, career pathways, and the evolution of our accreditation scheme since the last review. The panel also took a windscreen tour of our site, seeing first‑hand the transformation and new developments across AWE.

2025 Review Highlights

  • 240+ AWE staff are now RSC members
  • A robust development pathway supporting colleagues from L3 Apprentice, RSciTech, RSci, CChem and FRSC
  • 125+ successful chartership reviews over the past two decades
  • 10+ new Fellows (FRSC) in the last year alone, bringing AWE’s total to 20 FRSCs

It was great to host the RSC for our reaccreditation at AWE and celebrate over 20 years of our partnership. Being a member of a professional body and obtaining accreditation is a great way to invest in your ongoing development in a structured and externally recognised way. It brings a wealth of benefits to both the individual and their organisation.” – Dr Marina Dawes CChem FRSC FIMMM

This reaccreditation reflects the strength of our scientific community and our long‑standing commitment to professional excellence. A huge thank you to everyone involved for continuing to raise the bar.

Here’s to the next chapter of our collaboration with the RSC and to the continued growth of our talented people.
