AWE Welcomes Royal Society of Chemistry for Collaborative Visit

AWE recently welcomed colleagues from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for a visit that highlighted the very best of our people, facilities, and professional culture. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase our scientific capability, strengthen long-standing partnerships, and demonstrate our commitment to excellence across chemistry and materials science.

About the Royal Society of Chemistry
The Royal Society of Chemistry, founded in 1841, is the world’s oldest chemical society and a global professional body representing more than 60,000 members. It plays a leading role in advancing chemical science, supporting careers, and setting professional standards.

The RSC works to:

  • Promote excellence in chemical science
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards
  • Support education, training, and career development
  • Enable collaboration across academia, industry, and government

For AWE, this relationship provides independent assurance of our standards, supports workforce development, and strengthens confidence in our mission delivery.

Strengthening a Longstanding Partnership
The visit forms part of an ongoing relationship with the RSC spanning more than 20 years of accreditation and collaboration, further strengthened by recent appointments to senior governance and professional standards roles within the organisation.

The RSC delegation was hosted by representatives from AWE’s chemistry and materials leadership community.

Showcasing Capability and Innovation
Following an introductory session, visitors toured the laboratories, gaining insight into AWE’s expertise and professionalism. Tours included:

  • Systems Group
  • Conventional Materials Science
  • Radiochemistry

The visit also featured the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Collaboration (RAICo) exhibition, demonstrating the application of robotics and AI, and a tour of the AWE Educational Collection, highlighting how we communicate science and inspire future talent.

Investing in Our People
A key highlight was a session with RSC mentees, who shared their development journeys. Their experiences reflected the strength of AWE’s RSC-accredited scheme and supportive mentoring culture, enabling professional recognition from early career through to chartership and fellowship.

A Coordinated and Collaborative Visit
The day was seamlessly delivered, bringing together technical tours, discussions, and exhibits to showcase how AWE’s people, facilities, and professional frameworks work in unison.

Why This Partnership Matters
Our partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry is a strategic relationship that:

  • Validates the quality and professionalism of our science capability
  • Supports career development and recognition
  • Enables collaboration across the scientific community
  • Reinforces trust in AWE as a leading science and technology organisation
