Radiochemistry with Mass Spectrometry Placement
This is a lab-based placement, your time will be split between two teams who use radiochemistry separations to isolate and purify trace actinides from environmental samples prior to measurement using inorganic mass spectrometry to characterise isotopic and elemental signatures. Previous experience with radiochemistry or isotope mass spectrometry would be preferrable.
Radiochemistry with Radiation Detection Placement
This is a lab-based placement, your time will be split between two teams who use radiochemistry separations to isolate and purify a range of nuclides of interest from environmental and radioactive samples with measurements through gamma spectroscopy, liquid scintillation counting and alpha spectroscopy. Previous coding experience would be preferrable but there will be lots of opportunities to learn during your placement.
Radiation Detection Scientist Placement
This is a lab and desk-based placement performing radiometric analysis and data analysis – not just for us. Your work could also have you working with the UK government. You’ll have the opportunity to plan and perform your own analysis using gamma spectroscopy, liquid scintillation counting and alpha spectrometry as well as other novel detection systems. Previous experience in data science would be beneficial but is not essential as you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn through dedicated training.
Environmental Scientist Placement
This is a lab and desk-based placement assisting in environmental programme development and review to support Best Available Techniques (BAT) studies and statements alongside the development of in field sampling capabilities. You’ll have the opportunity to support the bulk waste characterisation programme major projects such as planning and scheduling programme elements, managing tasks and sentencing waste using statistical reporting.
You’ll gain experience in data manipulation and the uploading of data to support permit compliance and gain knowledge of laboratory analytical processes used with this area of expertise.
SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS | PROGRAMME DELIVERY
No matter which placement you choose you will be given the opportunity to learn and work with some of the top leaders in their field.
You’ll have the opportunity to put your studies into practice and acquire new skills to set you up for a successful career, whilst delivering on real-time work that’s critical to UK national security.
