Are you passionate about environmental science? Driven by an intrigue in the atomic world?
As a Radiochemistry undergraduate student you will have the opportunity to work with world-class scientists who provide a range of analytical capabilities and expert advice to the wider business, government agencies and external customers.
You’ll also make sure we meet our regulatory and license conditions which is incredibly important in the industry we operate in.
Our work is of the highest national security so you must be a British Citizen to apply.

WHAT DISCIPLINES FIT THE ROLE BEST?

You’ll be based at our Aldermaston site near Reading.
We work a nine-day fortnight. That means every other Friday off work & 270 hours of annual leave.

Dosimetry
Help protect people and workplaces through radiation monitoring and analysis.
This placement offers the opportunity to apply scientific and analytical skills in a laboratory environment while contributing to the safety and wellbeing of employees working in highly regulated settings.
You’ll join our Internal Dosimetry Services Team, which helps assess potential exposure to radioactive materials by analysing biological and workplace monitoring samples. The team’s work plays an important role in ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting the accurate assessment and recording of radiation doses.

Radiometrology
Use science, data, and technology to measure and better understand radioactive materials.
Radiometrology is the science of accurately measuring radioactive materials and radiation. The work carried out by this team provides critical data that supports safety, operational decision-making, and compliance across a wide range of programmes.
This placement offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory environment while developing practical skills in measurement science, data analysis, and problem solving.

No prior experience in these techniques is required, as full training will be provided. We’re looking for curious, enthusiastic students who enjoy solving problems, working with data, and applying science in a practical environment.
This is an excellent opportunity to build laboratory experience, develop technical expertise, and gain insight into how scientific measurement supports critical national missions.
