Are you an aspiring theoretical scientist?

You can play an integral role within our Physics team which includes a diverse range of  work to support the delivery of our mission, focusing on;

  • Radiation detection measurements and analysis
  • Photo, electron and neutron modelling codes
  • Simulating and measuring material properties in exotic states of matter such as those found in the centre of stars and planets
  • Developing new and novel computational algorithms to solve physics problems
  • Complex mathematical assessments

Our Physics teams work across a diverse range of disciplines, offering opportunities to develop expertise in areas such as radiation science, computational modelling, materials research, and mathematical analysis.

What you’ll learn

MODELLING | ALGORITHMS | DEFENCE INDUSTRY

During your placement, you could:

  • Support the development and application of radiation detection systems, helping to collect, analyse, and interpret scientific data.
  • Use advanced modelling and simulation tools to understand the behaviour of photons, electrons, neutrons, and other physical systems.
  • Apply computational methods and coding techniques to solve complex scientific and engineering challenges.
  • Investigate how materials behave under extreme conditions, including environments similar to those found deep within planets and stars.
  • Design experiments, analyse results, and contribute to research that advances our understanding of fundamental physical processes.
  • Develop and apply mathematical models to support research, testing, and technical decision-making.
  • Explore innovative approaches and emerging technologies to solve complex physics problems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across science, engineering, and technology to deliver research and development projects.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, advanced software tools, and world-class facilities while building practical skills that complement your studies.
