Dominic was appointed Executive Director, Environment, Safety, Health & Quality (ESH&Q) on 1 March 2023. This Executive role develops and deploys effective Company policies, strategies and processes to maintain the Licence to Operate, safely deliver the Company requirements and continuously improve business performance through an ethical, professional one-company culture.
Prior to this, Dominic was Director Nuclear Threat Reduction for over 6 years, leading the area of the business that supports national security and was responsible for working with internal and external customers to set and develop technical requirements and deliver the programme of work. In this role, he supported several national and international events and continues to represent AWE as a scientific advisor to Government. Dominic also led the transition of AWE to become an Arms Length Body within MOD in 2021.
Dominic joined AWE in 2007 and became the Head of Radiation Protection (Corporate RPA) in 2009. In this role, he was accountable for the implementation, monitoring and review of all radiation protection policy, standards and guidance at AWE and over a period of 5 years, liaised with the Executive, regulators and MOD on all radiation protection issues within the Company – he also provided technical input to the UK response to the Fukushima incident in Japan, acted as a technical advisor to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for expert missions overseas and prepared responses to Parliamentary questions and Freedom of Information requests.
Prior to joining AWE, Dominic worked for URS Corporation Ltd as a consultant on several waste management and decommissioning projects within the civil nuclear sector.
Dominic graduated from the University of Manchester with an MSc (Hons) and PhD in Nuclear Chemistry. Dominic currently lives in Hampshire with his wife and family; in his younger days he was a keen sportsman but now loves getting out into the countryside and travelling.
