Graduate Business Change Manager

How long have you worked at AWE?
I’m very new to the organisation, I’ve only been here 3 weeks

What did you study at university?
I studied Psychology at University of Reading

Why did you choose AWE?
It’s great to know you are working for an organisation that contributes significantly to the security of the United Kingdom. When applying, I watched the videos on the AWE website of the then current graduates talking about their experience at AWE so far. A lot of them said that they were given a lot of responsibility throughout their scheme which really interested me. They also said how much support and mentoring they had received throughout the scheme. This appealed to me as I want to learn and grow.

Tell us about your time at AWE?
There are a number of change projects going on throughout AWE and I contribute to the smooth running of these. I will soon be starting a number of short placements in different areas of the business including Communications, Finance and Business Management and Supply Chain to gain a wider knowledge of the organisation.

What are the benefits of AWE?
One great benefit about AWE is the flexibility. You can work times that work for you and the organisation operates a 9 day fortnight of working, which gives a great work/life balance. You are each assigned a graduate buddy and there is lots of support from your line manager and mentor in your team. There are also a number of teams you can join at AWE including badminton, football and rugby if you want to get involved with activities outside of work.

What do you most enjoy about your current role?
The thing I most enjoy about in my current role is the people I get to meet and interact with, from my team to front line workers. I’m learning so much from others around me and there is never a dull day in the office. Everyone is willing to help in any way they can, all you have to do is ask.

How do you see your career progressing?
I would like to build my way up in the change team, learning about the various projects going on throughout site. I am soon starting my Prosci Change Management course and at the end will be a qualified Change Management Practitioner.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about joining the AWE graduate programme?
Definitely apply! There are a lot of different opportunities here and things to get stuck into. You can easily rotate into a different areas of the business if you feel it would suit you better. Make sure you are yourself throughout the recruitment process and if you are a right fit for the company you will definitely have the best time here.
