Your mission

£23,500 + BENEFITS | 12-MONTH PLACEMENT

Materials and Analytics Science at AWE is all about making sure the UK’s nuclear deterrent stays reliable and ready. It’s the science behind the scenes, studying everything from metals and ceramics to explosive and radioactive components.

The team are responsible for understanding how these materials behave under pressure, over time and in extreme conditions.

Our work is of the highest national security so you must be a British Citizen to apply.

The opportunity

As a key member of the Modelling Team in Materials and Analytical Science, you will have the opportunity to be hands-on with important research and tasks working in an exciting part of AWE on projects that may include a range of models and codes.

Daily you’ll be working alongside experts in the field you’ll work on characterising the material ageing process and proposing approaches to model the observed trends.

You’ll put your coding skills to work and have the chance to learn more about other coding languages you may not have had experience of.

What you’ll learn

STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES | DATA ANALYSIS | PROBLEM SOLVING

You’ll learn and put into practice a variety of statistical techniques to analyse experimental data and become an expert in writing, developing and running codes written in a range of languages, such as MATLAB, OpenFOAM, R and Mathematica.

It’s a great opportunity to mix science, coding and problem solving with the aim of keeping the UKs nuclear deterrent reliable and future ready.
