Ready to make an impact within our Nuclear Material Operations team?
Operations play a critical role in supporting the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to maintain our national security and a role within this team offers a dynamic and rewarding environment where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of resources, driving efficiency and supporting the core of our supply chain.
Our work is of the highest national security so you must be a British Citizen to apply.
THE QUALIFICATIONS YOU’LL NEED
You’ll be based at our Aldermaston site near Reading.
We work a nine-day fortnight. That means every other Friday off work + 270 hours of annual leave.

This role gives you the chance to work directly in operational nuclear facilities, understanding how everything runs and getting hands-on with operations.
You’ll be part of the core team who oversee nuclear materials and other special components that play a key role in our national security. You’ll help to set our policies and training, making sure everything is accounted for and handled safely.
You’ll have the opportunity to run audits on our sites and support our reporting to the DNO.
The team also provides skilled personnel to oversee material moves and processing and to maintain the Fissile Material Control System which is integral to our critical safety and during your placement you’ll get to experience this process and play a critical role in this support.

PLANNING | PRODUCTION | REGULATIONS & POLICIES
You’ll learn how a nuclear site operates from planning and production to safety systems and compliance with regulations and policies.
You’ll build an understanding of nuclear material legislation, requirements and it’s connections to national security and planning. You’ll also have the chance to collaborate with a range of experienced stakeholders both internally at AWE and externally.
It’s a unique opportunity to use your theory and knowledge learnt from your studies and apply them to real-world situations and be part of something purposeful.
