Ready to make an impact within our Nuclear Material Operations team?
Operations play a critical role in supporting the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) within the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to maintain national security. A role in this team offers a dynamic and rewarding environment where you’ll help ensure the smooth flow of resources, drive efficiency, and support the core of our supply chain.
Our work is of the highest national security so you must be a British Citizen to apply.

LOCATION: ALDERMASTON NEAR READING
You’ll be based at our Aldermaston site near Reading.
We work a nine-day fortnight. That means every other Friday off work + 270 hours of annual leave.

The opportunity
Gain first-hand experience supporting the safe and secure operation of nuclear facilities.
During this placement, you’ll work closely with teams across our operational sites, gaining valuable insight into how complex nuclear facilities are managed and maintained. You’ll see first-hand how critical operations are planned, coordinated, and delivered safely.
You’ll support the management and oversight of specialist nuclear materials and components that are essential to national security. This includes helping to develop procedures, contributing to training activities, and ensuring materials are accurately tracked, accounted for, and handled in line with strict safety and regulatory requirements.
You’ll also have opportunities to take part in site audits, support regulatory reporting, and learn how we maintain the systems and processes that underpin safe and secure operations.
As part of the team, you’ll gain exposure to the movement and processing of nuclear materials, working alongside experienced professionals to support activities that are vital to the success of the organisation.

What you’ll learn
PLANNING | PRODUCTION | REGULATIONS & POLICIES
You’ll learn how a nuclear site operates from planning and production to safety systems and compliance with regulations and policies.
You’ll build an understanding of nuclear material legislation, requirements and it’s connections to national security and planning. You’ll also have the chance to collaborate with a range of experienced stakeholders both internally at AWE and externally.
It’s a unique opportunity to use your theory and knowledge learnt from your studies and apply them to real-world situations and be part of something purposeful.
