Richard Benyon MP meets AWE apprentices and graduates

Newbury MP Richard Benyon chatted to AWE graduates and apprentices on 7th November during a visit to AWE and a tour of the Orion laser facility.

Mr Benyon also heard about AWE’s unique work in support of the UK’s nuclear deterrent as well as the company’s community work in local schools to promote STEM as a career and our charitable work.

As part of the visit, he also had a tour of the Orion laser facility where he had the opportunity to meet with graduates and apprentices working in a number of disciplines across the business.

He said: “The skills and talents of the people of AWE are so important to the nature of deterrence and keeping our country safe. The company is a centre of excellence and brings real benefits to the local and wider community as a major employer, which I’ve always supported.”

AWE Director, Susie Tucker, added: “We are delighted that Mr Benyon was able to spend some time with us. As one of the largest employers locally, it is encouraging for us that he has such an informed understanding of what we are trying to achieve in terms of raising awareness of STEM and professional career opportunities.

“Our apprentices and graduates really enjoyed meeting him and he was very interested in Orion, and its capabilities as one of the world’s most powerful lasers.”
