AWE CEO becomes a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering

AWE‘s Chief Executive Officer, Alison Atkinson, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

She is one of 69 academics, business leaders and innovators elected to the Fellowship, for their outstanding contributions to engineering and technology.

Alison has more than 25 years’ international experience in leading business organisations across a range of sectors, including infrastructure, defence, nuclear and maritime. She joined AWE in 2005 and, prior to becoming CEO, was AWE’s  Director of Infrastructure Projects and Delivery. In 2019, Alison was voted the sixth most influential female engineer in the UK and Europe by the Financial Times.

She said: “I am delighted and humbled to be recognised by the Academy in this way. I look forward to working with the Academy and with other Fellows to continue to raise the profile of engineering as a field which offers fabulous opportunities to many talented people from any background.”

Sir Jim McDonald FREng FRSE, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, said: “Our Fellows represent the best of the best in the engineering world, and we welcome these 69 excellent and talented professionals to our community of businesspeople, entrepreneurs, innovators and academics.”
