AWE acknowledges regulatory notice

AWE has today (23 June) acknowledged a Prohibition Notice issued by the Office for Nuclear Regulation.

The Notice prohibits entry into a part of AWE’s Plutonium Technology Centre, at the Aldermaston site, which is classified as a ‘confined space,’ unless a safe system of work is in place.

An AWE spokesperson said: “We remain absolutely committed to the health and safety of our employees in the delivery of our programme.

“We acknowledge the details of the Prohibition Notice and confirm that this reflects the updated controls which have already been put in place.

“Our self-recognition of the required improvements has driven an ongoing programme of work since November 2021, including an internal review of the relevant confined space management arrangements. We will continue working closely and collaboratively with the Office for Nuclear Regulation in this respect.”
