AWE expert honoured for exceptional achievement

AWE’s Steve Fisher has received an Award of Excellence from the United States National Nuclear Security Administration, Office of Defence Programmes (DP) for his contribution to the U.S./UK Mutual Defence Agreement.

Currently a Senior Manager, International Liaison, Steve will be retiring later this year, after 26 years of service to the UK at AWE. His award recognises exceptional achievement in support of the U.S. Government’s National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) programme.

Based in AWE’s international liaison office he is responsible for managing elements of the collaborative work in support of each nation’s nuclear deterrent. Acknowledged as a leading expert in his field, he has also developed new ways of working towards mutual goals which enhanced the collaborative relationship with the U.S.

AWE’s Deputy Chief Scientist, Gareth Price, said: “Steve has been engaged in the UK/USA programme since the 1990s. He started in the UK Embassy in Washington, before joining AWE in 1995. He is one of a handful of UK subject matter experts who know and understand the international protocols associated with the warhead and nuclear threat reduction.

“I am delighted that Steve’s service has been recognised by the U.S. Government’s National Nuclear Security Administration, it is very well deserved. It also demonstrates the high regard and respect they have for Steve.”
