Chartered Week 2025

This Chartered Week we’re recognising the benefits of being chartered both for our individual colleagues and our business.

AWE’s mission depends on recruiting, developing and retaining the best; people who can be relied upon to champion and maintain professional standards in their work. One way of recognising this is to achieve a professional registration, such as a chartered status, with an external accrediting body.

We have over 700 chartered colleagues in several disciplines including engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, management, cyber security to name but a few.

We encourage our people to engage with their relevant institutions and support them to achieve registered status, promoting a culture of continuous professional development. The calibre of colleagues working towards achieving our mission is world-class, and chartership recognises that.

Many of our chartered professionals also act as mentors to our early career colleagues. The path to chartership also provides an excellent framework for our early career colleagues to take control of their career development and accelerate their progress.

We have a team of Heads of Profession who champion professional development across their disciplines, helping to raise competence and ethics standards.

“When I joined AWE I was mentored by more experienced physicists through the Chartership process. Their feedback helped me develop my professional skills and their encouragement gave me the confidence to apply for Chartership.”

“It was a great way to learn more about how physics is used at AWE and also helped me to meet physicists across the business.”

“I was proud to be awarded Chartership status, and I now enjoy helping others as they work towards gaining professional registration.”

David Green, CPhys, FInstP
