AWE announces new Strategic Alliance with the University of Strathclyde

As part of AWE’s partnerships with UK academia in support of our mission, we are pleased to announce a new Strategic Alliance with the University of Strathclyde to drive innovation in nuclear science and technology.

Joining the University of Bristol, Cranfield University, Heriot-Watt University, and Imperial College London, the University of Strathclyde has become AWE’s fifth Strategic Alliance university partner. Each university brings unique and specialised technical expertise that supports AWE’s work in national defence and keeping the UK safe.

This Strategic Alliance demonstrates a shared commitment from AWE and Strathclyde to cutting-edge technologies and capabilities. The partnership aims to create a dynamic and vibrant ecosystem that will promote academic excellence and groundbreaking advancements – and inspire future generations of scientists and engineers. Director of Industry Projects at the University of Strathclyde, Professor Daryl Landeg, said: “AWE

has amazing engineers and scientists who are a pleasure to work with. This strategic partnership allows us to understand each other’s technical challenges and research goals. We can then work together to make a real impact.”

The partnership will allow AWE with access to world-class academics, facilities and training programmes as well as advanced research centres and their diverse industrial members. It will enable Strathclyde to undertake a growing and ambitious research programme to develop enhanced capabilities.

AWE Principal Academic Liaison, Gareth Cairns, said: “Our new strategic alliance with the University of Strathclyde aims to build on our strong interactions over a wide range of research areas including but not limited to quantum, sensor and space technologies that will deliver benefit to our mission and the national STEM agenda. The partnership also allows us to align the university’s leading capability with our technical strategy to support innovation, skills and economic growth.”
